On December 26, 2019, composer/lyricist Jerry Herman died. Herman was most famous for writing the music and lyrics for the musicals "Hello, Dolly!" and "La Cage aux Folles." But in 1968, he wrote a now-forgotten show called "Dear World," based on The Madwoman of Chaillot. And it featured the following title song: It is almost breathtaking how much this song applies to our current situation - not just the coronavirus crisis, but the climate crisis as well. If only Jerry Herman had lived to see his song take on this meaning. An arts student named Shelbie Rassler rallied 74 socially-distanced classmates into a virtual orchestra to perform the classic song "What the World Needs Now is Love" (music by Burt Bacharach, lyrics by Hal David), and the result is amazing.
