Be a dear world and get well soon

On December 26, 2019, composer/lyricist Jerry Herman died. Herman was most famous for writing the music and lyrics for the musicals "Hello, Dolly!" and "La Cage aux Folles."

But in 1968, he wrote a now-forgotten show called "Dear World," based on The Madwoman of Chaillot.

And it featured the following title song:


It is almost breathtaking how much this song applies to our current situation - not just the coronavirus crisis, but the climate crisis as well.

If only Jerry Herman had lived to see his song take on this meaning.

  1. While I do agree it would be a great anthem for environmental issues, it is definitely appropriate for all of us right now. I am surprised others (everyday people and/or companies) have not thought to sing/use this fitting song. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
